Craiglee - The Region Sunbury is located about 40km northwest of Melbourne on the edge of the urban sprawl. The climate is mediterranean, with cool winters and long hot summers. Rainfall is a little less than the average for Melbourne, and with deep volcanic soils, the situation is ideal for development of intense fruit flavours in the grapes grown here.
Vineyards in this area are small family-owned concerns, producing table wines for the domestic and international markets. Sunbury is a designated geographic area for wine production, and labels of locally grown wines are eligible to carry the Sunbury name. Sunbury and district grapegrowers host a wine festival each year on the last Sunday in August.
